The year is 2373 Rescued by a psychotic murderer from the Kazon occupation of their ship, the crew of the Starship Voyager find themselves beset by misfortune when Harry Kim and Tom Paris are imprisoned for life on charges of terrorism, and Neelix is caught up in a narcotics deal with an old and trusted friend. Normally stable officers exhibit strange behaviour as half-Klingon chief engineer B’Elanna Torres - recipient of an uninvited mental intrusion - experiences the violent Pon Farr mating stage of Vulcan life, and the holographic Doctor turns violent after the addition of some new subroutines intended to broaden his understanding of human personality. Added to the misfortunes of the crew are the bizarre discoveries of Ferengi con-men posing as gods, a group of exiled Borg who have been severed from the Collective, and a race of pirates who conquer starships by replacing the crew one by one. In this year, the USS Voyager will be visited by the super-being Q, who wishes Captain Janeway to be the mother of his child, and the entire ship will be transported back to earth, unfortunately 377 years too early. Most disturbing for Voyager will be the discovery of Species 8472: an adversary many times more powerful than even the Borg. Faced wit the need to travel through Borg space to reach home Janeway will have to make a deal with the devil.
